Spread your risk across carriers. Don’t rely on a single parcel carrier or service level; add regionals and backup services so you can pivot when networks tighten. Stage inventory closer to customers. Use forward warehouses and smart forecasting so your fastest-moving holiday SKUs are near your biggest buyer clusters. Tighten warehouse throughput. Prioritize same-day orders, simplify pick paths, and make sure seasonal staff are trained before order volume peaks. Set realistic “order by” dates. Translate carrier cut-offs into clear holiday delivery promises by channel—and adjust them aggressively as you approach December 25. Treat returns as part of peak planning. Plan for the post-Christmas returns wave now with clear policies, self-service portals, and a triage process inside your warehouse.
